1970, Phoenix, AZ. Charmagne Vasquez is a North American artist of abstract and symbolist work, specifically painting, drawing, sculpture and poetry. Currently, her works are interested in examining humankind’s place within biological symbiosis, and the interconnected effects of religious colonization. Her own daily life intersects the macro of society; current state of global environmental crisis, political tides, and social evolution inform her process. Deepening reverence of nature is a very major theme. Her artistic journey has included eras of painting in watercolor, papier-mâché sculpture, pen and ink drawings, and fiber art. Her creative process organically evolved to explore more physical dimensionality of the media, and the re-purposing of materials at hand wherever she is. She praises the forces of cross pollination: ideas and projects can relate and shift organically. This fits with her long-held respect for scientific adaptation and automatism (allowing the unconscious mind to freely express). Charmagne has been included in publications such as Utne Reader, Phoenix Magazine, Luxe Interiors + Design and Creative Quarterly. When she is not working in her studio or on the road, she participates in international exhibitions. Representation: Scottsdale, AZ.
