Original Abstract Painting with a Uplifting Botanical Feel Caterpillar Fiesta Party goers donned their most colourful stripes and outrageous sombreros, lining up to take their turn whacking the tasty mulberry piñatas Caterpillar Fiesta by Kirsty Black is an original gestural artwork that vividly captures the energy and playfulness of a natural scene. Influenced by the fluidity and spontaneity of abstract expressionism, this painting features a lively mix of vibrant colors and dynamic brushstrokes. The bold hues of green, red, blue, and yellow evoke the exuberance of a garden in full bloom, where caterpillars and foliage coexist in a festive display of life. Painting from her studio in Auckland, New Zealand Kirsty loves to unleash colour, shape, line, and form to create refreshing, expressive abstract artworks, transporting the viewer to another place, to other memories. Having spent much of her life travelling and living around the world, Kirsty is driven by a sense of curiosity and adventure. This stimulation and a love of art, in particular abstraction, forms the basis of her work, conveying a sense of escapade and joyful escapism. Weaving memories with storylines and explosions of colour, Kirsty’s abstract art is like visual poetry. Instead of words and sentences, she intuitively creates a visual dance of the spirit. Her artwork has been featured in popular high-end magazines including, Home & Interiors - Scotland, Square Space - Singapore, AD Pro, Mexico and Maison et Jardin, France. A finalist in several notable Art Awards, including, Walker & Hall Art Award, 2022 to 2024, The Parkin Drawing Prize 2020 and the Molly Morpeth Canaday Award 2017, Kirsty’s work is exhibited widely, she also has a piece with The James Wallace Arts Trust.
