About The Artwork

A large mixed media painting (6'x 12') on unstretched canvas for the exhibit "Savages and Princesses" @ 108 Contemporary, Tulsa, 2016. The mural explores the myths I grew up with in Osage, County, Oklahoma. It's a play on Picasso's famous Guernica. Ink, acrylic, and oil on canvas.

Oklahoma artist Matthew Bearden. After graduating from Northeastern State University in 1992, he attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa fe, NM. Matthew has shown his work throughout the southwest and also in Manhattan, NY. An award winning artist, he's won the grand prize in juried competition at the Red Earth Festival, OKC, and Eiteljorg Indian Market, Indianapolis. Matthew has his work in permanent collections at the Oklahoma Jazz HOF, Tulsa FBC and the Oklahoma Supreme Court. Matthew was also chosen as the poster artist for the 2017 Tulsa Mayfest Festival. Matthew has been interviewed by many local news outlets on television and in print and this past year nationally about his recent 2015 exhibit "Sacred Mascots," and currently "Savages and Princesses" at 108 Contemporary.
