Chalk cliffs 11.10.22 - Ovingdean toward Brighton Marina i360 Painting

A bright, sunny expressive seascape - the latest in my Chalk Cliffs of England's South Coast series - and the first time I've included Brighton's i360 in the view. Painted on location - en plein air - on the Undercliff near Ovingdean cafe in the late summer 2022, with palette knife and acrylic on a canvas stretcher, chatting with various passers-by as I work. A wonderful afternoon just enjoying being alive in the sunshine, and enjoying recording the changes in a view I've painted several times before. This time I used a viscous medium to allow me to model a thicker texture in the cliffs, enhancing the textural quality of the work,which has always been part of my vision for this painting since I first thought of it back in 2012 - tint of yellow ochre thickly smoothed on with a palette knife to capture the layered, weathered feel of the ancient chalk cliffs.
