SHORT RESUME ABOUT ME: I was born in Kandava (a city in Latvia) in 1969. From the age of 10, I spent summers in Georgia with my father, well-known film director Soso Chkhaidze. His most famous film is “Shepherds of Tushetia”. In 1987 I entered the Tbilisi Academy of Arts – the faculty of Graphic Design. In 1992 I returned to Riga, worked as a graphic designer, organized my personal exhibitions in Riga, Latvia and some other European countries. I found and run my advertising company as well. I am the author of the design of Latvian money – 1 lat (water lily), as well as the author of the “Monument of the Barricades” located near the Latvian Saeima. I am the author of numerous well-known projects, books and magazine designs. Now I live and work in Tbilisi (Georgia) since 2006. My teachers in Academy were very famous personalities – Vakhtang Rurua, Temo Sulkhanishvili, Aleksandre Sarchimelidze. From 2011 I returned to what I like the most – painting. But 30 years of experience in the field of advertising still does not give peace of mind... My reputation is great and customers come to me themselves, but that’s another story... ABOUT MY PAINTINGS: I have drawn professionally and participating in exhibitions since 1990. During the last 10 years, I mostly work in acrylic technique on canvas. Acrylic best matches the modern rhythm. Before that, most works were in oil and graphics with gouache and mixed media, as well as collages. The sizes of my works are mostly medium format, starting from 50x50cm up to 150x150cm. Until 2011 my works were created in different manners, but then the “STRIPE PERIOD” began, which continues nowadays as well. This is how I see the world. Stripes are a sort of grid or backbone through which I build my world. Lines or stripes? Of course, stripes, but the main thing is the line. First there is the line, then the stripes, then comes the color, then the plastic and finally there is freedom. Order and no coincidences, pure colors. Casual art is unacceptable to me. A little deconstruction, but in the right dose, and then my personal reality comes in, which I share without hesitation. Sandro
