What inspired Christ Divider was that, despite the social inequality found in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Rio is a beautiful and welcoming city. I hope the viewer sees Christ the Redeemer as a landmark that divides the city (on the right, wealth; on the front, welcoming those from outside the city; on the left and behind, the impoverishment of the population). I chose to paint Christ the Redeemer, because it is one of the most striking symbols of Rio de Janeiro and because I thought it would be interesting to place it in a different way than on postcards. A more critical vision, a symbol of the city's division into social classes, which generates violence, neglect by public authorities and isolation of some neighborhoods. I painted Christ in an expressive way, far from Realism, without sticking to rigid lines. I used a lot of color, because Art is freedom, and freedom for me is color. This way, I can let go, almost like a child. I painted on Canvas, as I feel more comfortable with this support.
