About The Artwork

I started this painting in 2021 with oil colors. It was to be called "Dream Big" and was about a woman who was brave and free enough to dream big and create her future by herself. In February 2022, war broke out in Ukraine, and the old dreams of all Ukrainians ended. And at the same time as saving themselves and the country, many people began the process of self-identification, which continues. Ukrainians ask themselves: Who am I? What are my roots? What is my language and culture? What do home and the place where I was born mean to me? Being Ukrainian, I also ask myself these questions. I finished the painting with oil pastels, adding density and meaning. With a gold acrylic marker, I wrote a quote in the Ukrainian language, "Free I am, and never have I broken down the will of anyone," by the poet Lesya Ukrainka, which personifies the desire of Ukrainians for freedom and will without infringing on someone else's freedom and will. The painting is called "Self-identification."

Anna is an experienced Ukrainian artist based in Slovenia. Her paintings have been exhibited in Ukraine, Slovenia, the United States, and Switzerland. The painting ”Let Me Be Myself” became the cover of the book ”Sensual Faith” by Lyvonne Briggs. Her figurative works have been portraying women's dignity and role for a few years. While exploring this problem, Anna strengthened her will and determination to focus on the global theme of inequality and injustice, which gradually emerged in her recent works.
