'Coastal Calm' is a large, contemporary, semi abstract, canvas seascape painting in acrylic medium. A moody and atmospheric sky against the calm sea, sand and rock creates light reflections in the rock pools beneath. It has been painted using a palette of sienna, burnt umber and shades of blue to dipict the stunning, natural and rustic British coastline, with all it's contours of shape and warm colour. With strong contrast in tone, it creates depth and impact to the viewer and I hope this painting evokes a sense of presence and wonderment from the natural beauty of the land. It has been painted onto primed, cotton canvas with stretched solid wood frame. It is a 'chunky' canvas (deep sides) which means it will look equally as good on your wall, unframed or framed, in your own choice to complement your interior, whether home or work space.

Janet works from her studio in South Cambridgeshire, as a freelance artist, supplying semi abstract, impressionistic and fine art to publishing companies worldwide. Her paintings are sold from galleries throughout the South of England and internationally via the web. She has become a much recognized artist for her subject matter and her unique creative style of work. ʺI enjoy experimenting with all mediums but watercolor and acrylic are the ones I find most satisfying. Depending on the subject, I find that it would either lend itself more to the delicate touches of watercolor or to the stronger and more vibrant colors of acrylic paint and each would allow me to translate a ‘mood’ a subject might evoke”. I have come to realize that it’s not ‘what you paint’ that is important, but ‘how you paint it’. So in my interpretation of painting a subject, I try to maintain the essence of what first inspired me to paint it. For me, what is fundamental in my paintings are light, subtlety of color, harmony, depth and drama, while still staying true to the subject. In my finished work, I hope that I have conveyed to the viewer a sense of mood, which was present at the time of painting it.ʺ
