Original abstract painting done with acrylic paint and gesso on a ready-to-hang canvas, side of canvas is painted too (see photos). Signed on back, initials on front. My paintings find their form through a stratification process, superimposing several layers and progressively choosing what to hide and what to reveal. I love using texures and play with materiality. My art is very instinctive, I start from a broad idea but then the painting is generated moment by moment without pre-planning the end result.

I was born in Italy on the Po River Plain. I grew up in this beautiful natural environment between Sabbioneta and Mantova, two small beautiful cities full of art and history in the Italian countryside, whose nature and buildings have had a great influence on my works. To date my art practice is based in London; a city that I love deeply. My academic background is in architecture but, since a young age, I have always cultivated a passion for painting and drawing by frequenting the studio of a local artist. I learned my painting techniques from private lessons with artists throughout Italy and by observing them at work and mostly, of course; through my own practice, experiments and making mistakes. I always paint abstract subjects; my works find their form through a stratification process. I superimpose several layers and progressively choose what to hide and what to reveal. I use a mixture of instinct and thought; some layers are created quickly, simply guided by emotions and intuition, then stopping, observing and balancing the composition while I proceed. I'm very interested in materiality, through the use of textures I want to work on multiple sensorial levels, not only sight but also touch, and I believe that even taste and smell have their part. Within the textures you can find lacerations, marks, lines and scars. I look for complexity and try to evoke different emotions from sadness to anger, anger to joy. I want to balance all these elements on the canvas. These are not objects to be quickly observed, my hope is that the observers will spend time discovering the many elements presented to them, moving through the details, textures and colours. I decided not to provide a descriptive name for my works but simply to name them, “compositions”. Like a musical composition they are a product of the subconscious mind and they are not meant to speak to the analytical, logical brain but to find a connection between my inner life and the inner life of the observer, through the emotional and sensorial understanding of painting.
