About the Artist

Mustafa Cetin

Canada

For more than thirty years, Mustafa Çetin has developed a distinctive visual language that combines abstract figuration, expressive colour, and richly layered surfaces. Based in Toronto, Canada, Çetin creates paintings that explore human emotions, memory, identity, and the subtle connections between personal experience and universal themes.

He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Hacettepe University in Ankara, Türkiye, in 1992 and completed his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at the University of East London in 2000. His artistic journey across different cultures has influenced a practice that brings together contemporary approaches with a deep appreciation for human stories and emotional expression.

Çetin’s paintings are built through an intuitive process of layering, where colour, texture, and gesture gradually form a visual dialogue. His works often move between recognizable forms and abstraction, allowing viewers to create their own interpretations and personal connections with each piece.

Throughout his career, Çetin has remained actively engaged in the art community as an artist, curator, and organizer. He co-founded the Turquoise Art Group in London and founded Mavi Art Group in Toronto, creating opportunities for artists to exhibit and connect with diverse audiences. He also produced and hosted the television art program *A Sip of Art*, reflecting his commitment to sharing art with the wider community.

His works have been exhibited in galleries and art events in Türkiye, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other locations, and are held in private collections and gallery collections in Türkiye and abroad.

Today, Mustafa Çetin continues his studio practice in Toronto, creating contemporary paintings that seek to establish a lasting relationship between artwork and viewer. Each piece is intended not only as a visual experience but as an emotional presence that continues to reveal new meanings over time.
