ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I paint because I have a deep-rooted desire to bring color into spaces. My background is in interior architecture. I first became exposed to Abstract Expressionism while a student in upstate New York in the 1970s. After graduation, I was a mural painter. I painted large scale murals on the sides of buildings, often in depressed cityscapes. Even though my paintings are abstract, they have an underlying structure and grid. I meticulously plan each painting on canvas maquettes. Being in interior architecture, to me, color is critical. The more I manipulate paint, the more I learn about color. And there is still much to be revealed.
