An original piece of acrylic artwork, lovingly painted by Cornish Artist Lindsey Keates. Portreath is a very popular Cornish Beach and frequently visited by our family. It is also a very popular dog walking beach (out of season). The day mark on top of North Cliff at Portreath is known locally as the Pepperpot. It was built as a sign to passing shipping so they knew where they were. It was built in 1846 and also used as a coastguard lookout. The big rock sat out to sea is Gull Rock. It seems the big rock of every beach and point is called Gull Rock, and Portreath is no exception! Unfortunately, Portreath suffers from harsh storms in winter and the small white structure at the end of the pier had 'disappeared' in previous years due to the pure force of the ocean. Thankfully, we have our 'Pepper Pot' white hut structure back in its rightful place! This painting was created in 2013 and has led to current work being developed since then. The natural world is the source of my inspiration, the sounds of the ocean, beach and dunes evocative of childhood memories in Cornwall. In recent years during many hours of river/ocean rowing and competing on Cornish shores, my work has evolved lending amazing transparency, fluidity & reflections to my artworks, the adrenaline, energy, salt spray and high winds creating my style of 'Tidalmarks'. The environment and impacting political issues caused by man-made pollution is a driving force for new and emerging work. . I donated a painting to the 'Save our sands' community group, Hayle, Cornwall, in April 2011, following 20 tons of sand being over dredged and killing the dune system. Further to this, my work has been a tribute to my late mother who was an environmental scientist and in June 2015 'The Summer Exhibition', held on national beach clean day June 2016, at Stisa, St Ives. Landscapes have been a starting point, however, I have also been researching and investigating the news and diverse cultural approaches to pollution and Climate change, due to poverty these issues will always be subjective to finance first, but living in harmony with nature is the future and small changes make a big difference, it's surely about how we reach these objectives together globally, putting differences aside, such a big ask I know. But I have to believe for my children and the future generations that we have to #bethechange. #makeadifference
