Katherine’s painting journey began when she was helping a successful Aboriginal
artist that wanted to retire. He has since passed away but he helped her realize that she
can also paint, when she thought she couldn’t. Her unique style is influenced by his
art, the ocean, nature and our lands in Abstract.
Katherine lives in Australia but originates from New Zealand – Aotearoa the land of
the Long White Cloud. Two of the most stunning countries for their tapestries of
scenery. Their unique flora and fauna has inspired her as an artist and show a
distinctive connection to the lands and sea.
Her love for the Abstract arts has exploded onto canvasses, aluminium and specialty
papers allowing others to catch a glimpse of her artistic abilities and her exploration of
many exciting new art medium. Alcohol Inks are such fun. Katherine begins each
painting by using a syringe to pour the solvent and inks onto the S-Ink paper and
watches it dry and waits for the scene to appear and then begins the fine pen work to
complete the story.
Her work is vibrant, colourful, and playful and yet the detail of shapes serve to
integrate the free forms with those carefully controlled and created.
Each art piece is unique, and each has its own story which gives a deeper meaning to
the exquisite shapes and forms created that seem to glide over the paper effortlessly.
The combination of kinetic energy and controlled meticulous detail aims to show the
fragility of balance that exists all around us. Her art is translucent and has a fluidity
that draws the viewer into each piece as it creates movement like that of flowing
waters or footsteps in the sands. Some create the ambience of isolation and desolation
like the large open spaces in Australia. Some art pieces portray the movement of life
in the oceans and reefs that few get to see. The commonality of all the works created
is the depiction of the wonders of the land and sea that provides sanctuary, food
source and beauty and why we should protect it.
Her work is inspired by the tranquil and exquisite creation of the wondrous world
around us. Katherine and her artwork has been featured in an American magazine the
Dialogist and also a London environmental magazine The Earth Issue and had
exhibitions in Sydney, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Dubai.
