My work depicts the landscapes that I am familiar with due to my own experiences of walking and driving through them, as well as the emotions associated with them. I am especially drawn to the way light can transform these locations. When I began creating plein air paintings as an art student, I found my interest in painting the landscape. I always begin a painting with a colored ground instead of a white background. Some of my paintings are created on sight, or at least began that way. More recently though, I work from an ever-growing collection of my own photographs of these familiar places.
