"Cyclopulus Classic"is a enthralling take on the mythological figure, the Cyclops. This striking and nearly monochrome portrait is completed in shades of black, white, and grays. The large focal point eye is framed on the underside by a bright red lower eyelid margin which further draws attention to the center. The face includes doubled noses and mouths which add interest and movement to the composition.

This 12” x 16” piece is partially inspired by 80s new wave aesthetic and continues a series of portraits which challenge and confront expectations placed on the human form. Light and shadow are distributed with carefully chosen light and dark shades of gray. The facial features and pattern are defined with semi-gloss black lines which alternately rein in the composition. The background features energetic, bold patterns which radiate from the head. While technically representational, the overall effect of this style is to draw the eye into individual abstract components that serve as the building blocks of the composition. My hope is that this slows the process of viewing the art and transforms it into a joyful exploration.

This thoroughly contemporary original painting is sure to be thought-provoking and demand attention. The image is painted in acrylic with tight detail and care on a quality gallery wrapped canvas with 3/4" stretcher bars. The patterns continue over the thick edges of the painting so there is no need for framing. The painting includes a hang-wire and is ready to hang.
