Mgr. art. Lubomir Korenko is a formally trained Slovak contemporary artist and designer whose creative practice is defined by a deep dialogue between structural drawing and raw, heavy impasto textures. Based in Poprad, Slovakia—beneath the High Tatras mountains—Korenko’s work reflects decades of dedicated exploration, academic rigor, and international experience.
He earned his Master of Arts degree (Mgr. art.) from the Faculty of Arts at the Technical University of Košice (FU TUKE), where he studied Design under doc. Tadeusz Blonski. His understanding of classical disciplines, including anatomy, color theory, and spatial structure, was further refined under the tutelage of the acclaimed academic painter Jozef Haščák. This unique bridge between design thinking and fine arts remains the cornerstone of his creative process.
A pivotal chapter in Korenko’s career occurred between 2005 and 2012, during which he lived and worked in the United Kingdom. As an active member of the Warwickshire Artists group, he became fully immersed in the British contemporary art scene, a period of international exposure that allowed him to evolve his style into the realm of expressive abstraction.
Today, Korenko’s portfolio bridges the delicate, unpredictable fluidity of watercolor with the visceral power of large-scale mixed media paintings on canvas. Every piece begins with a line; structural drawing serves as the backbone of the composition, which he then layers with heavy modeling pastes and premium acrylic mediums. Utilizing palette knives and gestural brushstrokes, he creates exceptional 3D plasticity where details physically rise from the canvas.
Visually inspired by the raw dynamics of nature, human psychology, and global events, Korenko infuses his canvases with intense inner energy. However, he intentionally leaves his visual narratives open-ended. Each painting is an open invitation for the viewer to step into his world, look past the rich physical textures, and project their own imagination and stories into the artwork.
Lubomir Korenko’s paintings have been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Europe—including the Tatra Gallery (Slovakia), the Coventry Transport Museum (UK), the Opera Gallery (Budapest), and the international EU exhibition Stars in the Sky (Slovenia). His unique textured pieces are held in private collections worldwide.
