About The Artwork

Daniel Gibbs, a notary by training who was deputy for Saint Barthélémy and Saint Martin from 2012 to 2017, is the president of the territorial council of the community of Saint Martin since 2017, he is also a bit of a "business man" good chic good kind, with its rollex and or equivalent and especially with its many projects, of which very few will probably see the light of day, because post IRMA reconstructions, COVID and upcoming elections... They boil down for the moment in their most visible part to a few navy gray containers intended to temporarily house the businesses on the seafront while awaiting the reconstruction of Caribbean-style pavilions. The Saint Martin population also includes more “down to earth” figures such as Ras Touzah-Jah-Bash, founder of the gardens of the “Solidarity Rastafari Organization” located in Bellevue. The manager of “We agree with Culture”, Touzah-Jah-Bash is always ready to share his “students” with his vast knowledge of the history of Saint-Martin and of its production of a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. organic, but also knowledge of medicinal plants and their actions on our health, knowing how to associate them with each other, making various herbal preparations As a wise man, Touzah Jah Bash readily quotes phrases like A wise man keep with still tongue, everything the opposite of the logorrhea of politicians, although he regularly hosts a radio program called “Word, sound & Power” produced by the St. Martin Grass Roots Movement.

Western culture has for principle to consider that a pictorial and or plastic work of art is the result of a first cerebral act and would be in a way that the illustration of this primordial logocratic act which will define with precision what the hand of the artist will have to realize. Spirit of contradiction or simply deviance, I have always proceeded in another way and more particularly for my drawings where I let my hand produce an image almost automatically and above all without thinking. I sign and date the drawing, then I let "the thing" mature for a while before giving it a title which is meant to be one possibility among others and could therefore be quite different if it had been defined on another day. This title more or less takes into account what the drawing and where the plastic work shows elements that could be significant and or in any case could give rise to a "literary interpretation", even if it remains very highly uncertain.
