About The Artwork

"Dear Friend," is from a collection of artwork focusing on the abstraction of recognizable patterns of expression, once commonly found in personally handwritten lists and correspondence, but now seen as vague memorials to an outmoded way of life. My initial source of inspiration for this series of work came from The Palmer Method of Business Writing, a book of penmanship instruction dating back to the late 19th century. In it, Palmer dissects and closely studies the making of each cursive letter of the alphabet and then creates drills consisting of repeating patterns for practicing handwriting. The acrylic painting is on a sturdy birch panel with a 1 5/8" depth; edges are finished with very dark blue color; can be framed or hung as is (mounted with picture wire).

About my work My body of work over the past decade is an expression of my surroundings and experiences with a focus on communication, time, memory, and emotion. I often portray deconstructed billboards with obscured typography and re-contextualized materials of correspondence that hold messages of relatable emotion. Each piece of artwork conveys a collection of memories captured in time.
