About The Artwork

The initial concept for this piece was really started through a series of Artworks titled defragmentations. After along period of illness and surgery, I was in a situation where I had to reconnect with my Art and try to reconstitute the broken pieces together again. (it describes the process of reordering data in a more efficient and economical manner from a digital device) Working on proposals for large projects such as this one, I often look at artists of the past for inspiration and direction. I was looking specifically at the assemblies by Malevich’s arkhitekton models and the iconic Schwitters’ Hanover Merzbau. In my mind these pieces represent the complexities of the mind they are analytical and geometric but also through their complexity they can generate an emotional response. Many of my works have a modular approach assembled components used to create a construct my visual compositions: A sort of lyrical constructivism. They are sensual and at the same time conceptual images that play with the space and interspace between media and materials. They are based on rectangular grids but the ultimate idea behind his works is the break from the perfect, even and regular web of life.

Whilst New media offers us parallel realities of infinite alternatives, I believe we are at a pivotal moment in creative practice when painting is valued for its unique richness. My paintings arc back to the unpredictability of life. Using patterns layered and repeated creating complex networks that echo the intricacy of Nature. I have drawn inspiration from Mathematician David Ruelle research on “strange attractor”, shapes emerging from diagrams. As he says “… These systems of curves, these clouds of points, suggest sometimes fireworks of galaxies, sometimes strange and disquieting vegetal proliferations. A realm lies here to explore and harmonies to discover...”
