This painting responds to the metacrisis and the impact of exponential new technologies on civilization. Digitally manipulating a previously transposed romantic painting: Francis Danby's The Deluge 1839 and incorporating an angel appropriated from Alonso Cano's St John the Evangelist's Vision of Jerusalem 1635, explores temporal layering. The interplay between digital composition and painting on canvas examines the concept of the aura of the work or art. ‘Even the most perfect reproduction of a work of art is lacking in one element: its presence in time and space, its unique existence at the place where it happens to be.’ (Benjamin, 1935)

Larain Briggs' work is introspective, self-reflective, and recursive. Her creative process involves revisiting and reinterpreting previous works, layering and interweaving images and meanings while transitioning between two-dimensional, three-dimensional, digital, and virtual worlds. Through analysis of symbols that emerge in her work, she establishes a dialogue with the unconscious, facilitating individuation (development of the Self) and informing her creative practice and research. Her research is grounded in psychoanalytical theory, focusing on Carl Jung's concepts of archetypes, the collective unconscious, synchronicity and alchemy. Briggs is pursuing a professional doctorate in Fine Art at the University of East London, focusing on transformation of the self through art practice and engagement. Born in 1960, she resides on the East Coast of the UK. In 1990, she completed a BA(Hons) in Fine Arts, specialising in painting, at Camberwell UAL. She has exhibited her work in the UK and internationally. Her practice has been enriched by further studies in Computer-Aided Visualization, Art Education (PGCE), Psychology, Analytical Psychology, and Art Therapy.
