For over twenty-five years, GJ Wielinga has been working at the intersection of concept and craft. Trained at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht and the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, Wielinga approaches art-making as a form of inquiry: the medium follows the idea, not the other way around. That restlessness is visible across a body of work that spans drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, textile, spatial installation, and text. Each series is self-contained, a focused investigation into a specific theme. What connects them is a consistent commitment to asking uncomfortable questions. Current work explores screen printing as a vehicle for themes of personal freedom, transformation, time, and the singularity, the moment when technology may irrevocably alter what it means to be human. The physicality of the screen printing process, its layers and resistances, mirrors the tension in the work itself. Wielinga is based in Amsterdam and is available for commissions and collaborative projects. If a theme resonates, reach out.
