ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Who is hiding behind this young woman who is taking great care to prepare herself? In symbolism, the mask is the most obvious sign of dissimulation, of the disguise of reality, of the enemy of the truth. It allows one to take on another appearance, to mask one's personality or to let it truly appear without being recognized. "Behind the mask" is part of a series entitled "My Little Nanas" where the painter's daughter is used as a model to illustrate human behaviors, situations that we can sometimes observe and that she draws from her personal experience. She composes her work by adding keys of reading with the help of various symbols. From a technical point of view, she applies multiple brushstrokes, more or less wide and energetic, to certain "secondary places" and destructures certain areas in order to bring the eye to the focal point, which is preserved.

Born in Courrières in the North of France, I share my time between the North of France and Paris which inspires me many urban scenes including café terraces. I have always used oil paint because slow drying suits my technique better. I work in series by inspiring my surrounding, places I go to, objects I own and stage. In the series "Réflexions sur le temps qui passe", I treat the cars and Vespa in the manner of the "vanities" of the past by perforating the bodies, rusting them, thus translating the time that passes and which reduces to few things once prestigious vehicles. The parallel is obvious with our own existence. In the still lifes séries, I stage objects with a preference for metal and glass and using a palette of coloured grey and nuanced white so as to have a contemporary touch. In the series "Mes petites Nanas", I interpret scenes, situations, by putting in scene my daughter who is used to me as model (The comedy of the feelings, or the works on the small girls). Finally, the urban landscapes are inspired, as I said earlier, by my numerous stays in Paris where I live part of the year.
