ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The painting is influenced from a trip and exhibition I had in Nanjing, China. Buddhism, and other cultural differences such as a way of thinking about life was an influence. When arriving home I thought of quilting and crafts here in the United States. Painting patterns comes from American quilt influence and Modern Geometric Painting. The bicycle wheel really speaks about China's main transportation of the people who live there day to day. The wheel of fortune juxtaposed to the wheel is playful but serious. Juxtaposing my experiences seems to point towards the AHA! of discovering how our daily habits of thoughts and actions play together to create our realities. And when we look at it all together we understand how we are moving through life physically as well as intellectually.
