Paired with my original poem entitled The Warbler's Tale I will protect you — Like the hoisting beam above this old garage; chipped and nondescript — but that’s the rub. Copper sedge, sturdy twine, and tufts of prized merino drizzle your bowl like wheels of sugar candy. Hawks and other predacious brutes circle swaths of your unfenced playground; My pindrop stare predates your itch as a rising wind nips your budding wingbars, and that singular moment a spot of rain rolls from lore to bill; Your wobbly entreaty is imbued with bravery — I close one eye and rest.
