«Do You Speak Kangaroo? _FightOrFlightOrSociability» Painting

"Do You Speak Kangaroo _FightOrFlightOrSociability" is a work created in August 2021. It is inspired by the eponymous triptych created on paper by the artist in 2010. Here, civilisation (represented in particular by a Parisian metro station) is opposed to savagery (represented by the presence of kangaroos). Before creating this work, Patrick Gourgouillat spent a long time thinking about the issue of stress in our modern societies. Fighting and fleeing inevitably came to mind first: both behaviours generating physiological stress, for the former, or psychological stress, for the latter. Of course, as has been shown in psychology, there is a possibility of compromise: sociability. Here it is: this is where "Do You Speak Kangaroo?" begins. In his almost chaotic and very colourful composition, Patrick Gourgouillat invites kangaroos, boxers, Madonna and a prisoner, among others, on the same level. The whole is connected to aboriginal art. In the confusion of things mixed together, there seems to be no room for respite. And yet, on closer inspection, "Do You Speak Kangaroo" offers another option: that of "The Dreaming".
