About The Artwork
Dogged by Doubts is a large original abstract acrylic painting on panel by artist Marlene Struss, protected with satin polymer varnish, signed, wired, and cradled in stained wood. A bright red unclothed female figure rushes out of the picture on the far right-hand side seemingly pursued and almost overtaken by a forest of hostile sticks. The mainly torso is composed of the very environment it is escaping, making it hard to discern, and appears to be in a protective stance as it twists back to view the danger that is upon it. The painting is a metaphor for a troubled doubting mind caught up in the turmoil and ambiguity of its circumstances. It could be considered temporarily biographical:)

I'm a California girl, agnostic product of Catholic schools, and inveterate artist. My art degree is from University of California at Santa Barbara, where I am blessed to still be. Since college I've created bodies of work in pastel, surrealistic collage, abstract collage, digital painting and acrylic painting at present.
