Gosia Koscielak (Małgorzata Kościelak Królikowska) an artist, curator and designer born in Wroclaw, Poland. She lives and works in Chicago/Wilmette since 1992. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, Poland (MFA'86, MFA'87, Adjunct Professor' 92 at Prof. Wanda Gołkowska studio) and from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago (MFA'94) where she was a Fulbright Scholar. In years 1987-1989 she has been the Artistic Director of the Rekwizytornia Gallery at the Contemporary Theatre in Wroclaw. Since 1987 she curated many exhibitions worldwide, among the numerous local and international exhibitions she has curated are: Hommage a Henryk Stażewski (1989), Transcultural Visions: Polish - American Contemporary Art at the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago (2001),and at the National Museum in Szczecin (2002), Crossmediale, In Transit and many others. Koscielak has lectured at The Art Institute of Chicago, St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY. She has been visiting lecturer at the Northwestern University, Evanston, IL and University of Illinois at Chicago. Gosia Kościelak is a visual artist creating light art, design, and an art curator who has had numerous solo and group exhibitions at galleries and museums in Poland, Italy, Germany, Greece and the US. She participated in group exhibitions in Greece, Holland, Germany, Poland, Australia and the US. Her works are in private and public collections worldwide, including Calgary University, Chełm Museum, Center for Polish Sculpture, Orońsko, Poland, G & A Mamidakis Foundation, Crete, Greece, Hunfeld Museum of Modern Art, Germany. She was a Lighting Designer at The Field Museum in Chicago. She created lighting design for the following exhibitions: Origins, January 9, 1999 - May 31, 2000, Sounds from the Vaults, September 4, 1999 - March 5, 2000 among others. This exhibition was awarded Winner of 2000 AAM Muse Award for Interactive Media. Gosia continues to create her light art and multimedia projects as well as she creates artworks in traditional media like ceramics, paintings, drawing and sculpture. Koscielak's art is strongly connected with the traditions of minimal and conceptual art and Constructivism she draws from these sources and updates them. Her multimedia installations, paintings and digital graphics center on her lifelong fascination with the phenomena of light.
