ABOUT THE ARTWORK
All my life I am inspired by music and films. That's why I started painting portraits of pop icons and movie stars. Leaving only the essentials in a portrait and still be recognizable is my challenge again and again. The eyes are the most important to me. Being a large size canvas makes them more impressive. My background as a graphic designer shows in my portraits. Music and memories are related to me. This painting was in an exhibtion with the music of Ed Sheeran, played by young musicians. No framing required. Sides are painted.

My name is Dido de Beer, I have been a graphic designer for more than 35 years, and I am painting portraits in a graphic style. Large size canvasses of pop icons and film stars. Painting the eyes is my speciality. Pop icons and movie stars have always inspired me. Music was my escape growing up, transporting me through time with memories connected to each song. Now as an artist, I aim to capture that nostalgic feeling. My graphic style lends itself to bold colours and energetic brushstrokes across large canvases detailed enough to identify the famous face. I find the human expression endlessly fascinating to observe and recreate. Music fills my studio during the artistic process, influencing the mood and direction of each piece. Through my vibrant, pop-inspired paintings, I hope to provide that same sense of joy and healing that art and music have brought me.
