The 360 degree vistas from Edinburgh's, Calton Hill are iconic. When sunny, much of this view is in shadow during the day, but looks glorious in the evening sun, which I wanted to capture. I chose an aspect where you can see many of Edinburgh's renowned landmarks to show how rich in history this small city is: Dugald Stewart Monument, St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh Castle, Scott Monument and the clock tower of The Balmoral Hotel. I also wanted to capture the tranquility and quietness of the city towards the end of the day (except during the festival when it transforms into a buzz of excitement day and evening!). I hope the viewer experiences this feeling when gazing at the painting. The original artwork is initialled on the front and signed, titled and dated with the year on the back.

PRINTS AVAILABLE ON ALL ARTWORKS - CLICK ON ARTWORK THEN THE PRINT TAB. Angela Moffat, a self-taught landscape artist from Edinburgh, rediscovered her passion for painting five years ago. Initially, she pursued a career in fashion design, studying at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design (1987–1990) following a Foundation Course at Norwich School of Art (1986–1987). Although she chose fashion as a “safer” path, Angela always knew she would eventually return to painting. Her painting style combines realism with impressionism, influenced by French Impressionists and British artists like Edward Seago and Ken Howard. Through a thoughtful play of light and colour, Angela captures the unique atmosphere and mood of each subject. In her series on Edinburgh, she highlights both the historic, shadowed aspects of the city through rich tonal colours and its vibrant energy with brighter hues. Angela’s career in fashion evolved into a successful role as a stylist, working on advertising campaigns for international brands. Her expertise also extended into outdoor space design, where she founded Paterior Design, creating distinctive outdoor living spaces for homeowners.
