About The Artwork

Ego and Shadow - According to Carl Gustav Jung, the ego is the center of the field of consciousness. The ego is subordinate to the Self and is connected to it as a part of the whole. Within the field of consciousness he has a subjective sense of freedom. The ego sees its limitations outside the field of consciousness, in the subjective inner world where it conflicts with the facts of the self. The shadow, along with the animus and anima, is the figure that most often and most fiercely disturbs the ego. It is a moral problem, which provokes the whole ego-personality, for no one can become aware of the shadow without considerable moral effort. Becoming aware means recognizing the dark aspects of personality as present and real.

I am a self-taught artist, living on the outskirts of Croatia's capital. My love for art goes back to my earliest childhood – when my grandmother would give me a drawing pad and wooden crayons next to a bowl of oatmeal. I am strongly and genuinely associating myself with the abstract expressionist/art informel movements, in particular their interest in psychoanalysis, having myself obtained a PhD in psychoanalytical theories. My art is, hence, abstract, unpredictable, gestural, reflecting my inner current state of being. I do not paint with the intent to please the viewer – in fact, I have been told quite a few times that some of my works evoke the feeling of unease, or are disturbing, which I have taken as a compliment. To me, creating an art piece is a process, arguably more important than the final product, in that it embraces artists’ search for a meaning, scratching beneath the surface, interrogating, and analyzing the extent of both the conscious and the unconscious, somewhat leaving aside the aesthetics. It is solely their imprint, their true Self that they leave on canvas (or paper for that matter). That is the essence of art. I am in love with the process, allowing myself to grow continuously, to experiment, to not restrain myself, remaining authentic and spontaneous, making a mark in the world of art while preserving my unique artist signature. I am a member of the Croatian Association of Fine Artists (HDLU), which is the umbrella association of Croatian artists. My works have been sold all over the world including the UK, Europe, the USA, Australia, Japan, as well as used for book and magazine cover pages.
