Emeryville #28 is one of a series of paintings focusing on reflections created by high rise buildings that protrude into San Francisco Bay just west of the 1-80 freeway in the City of Emeryville, CA. The reflected image has been distorted, saturation added and scale magnified using a computer forming the non-geometric portion of the painting and then the geometric shapes are added. The geometric shapes of red and black, and central white rectangle, focuses the eye on the central organic area of the work. The rectangles require the viewer's eye to concentrate on distortions with a sharp contrast to those organic areas of reflected light. The mind works at making sense of the abstract swirl of paint. It is the artist's hope it captures the viewer's attention, while being drawn into this surreal distortion of this reflected reality. The painting is on quarter inch Masonite, a substrate material used by fine artists from its introduction to the mass market in 1929. The panel has been prepared with four or five coats of acrylic based gesso. That forms a perfect painting surface, which ensures the acrylic paint bonds correctly. The surface is painted flatly in the geometric areas to a slight impaso in the more organic areas of the piece. The work has two coats of Kamar Varnish, specifically engineered to protect the surface of the acrylic painted fine art. It will make a beautiful addition to a home or office. It is unframed.
