About The Artwork

This work comes from my Noosa Heads Studio and has been in storage whilst I was in Europe and am delighted to now have the painting for sale. The work is textured with flows of chartreuse greens, white with some dark grey and blue adding contrasts. There is some sand to give it even more texture. There appears to be streams running across the work hence the title.

An International Australian artist Koningen's Studio in the heart of Brugge Belgium is now closed with the artist relocating back to Australia. Born in Norway, to a Dutch father and Norwegian mother the influences of travel and change began almost from his birth. His introduction to arts began at an early age with visits to Rijksmuseum. The family moved to Australia when he was seven where he excelled in the arts studying art & industrial design. Koningen did a year as a commercial artist but was drawn to the family business in Curacao, Dutch Antilles. Leaving painting behind, he spent years in business until midlife he realized it was time to go back to his original passion, abstract painting! He is constantly moving forward in his colour work and application of paint on canvas. Deep respect for de Kooning (also from Netherlands) and Joan Mitchell (USA). Wanting to reconnect with his European roots, Koningen moved his Noosa Australia studio to Brugge Belgium in 2005. HIs work changed with a more urban influence and other series of works are more abstract mindfulness from travel experiences. Change is inevitable for artistic development, with Koningen starting to miss open spaces and big blue skies his heart was drawn to Australia. The studio Brugge was closed, paintings packed and shipped to Australia. The Koningen ART studio is now open on the Sunshine Coast.
