AKORE is a self-taught, multidisciplinary artist and a leading figure in Barcelona’s contemporary urban art scene. With a career spanning over three decades, his work has evolved from the 1980s hip-hop outskirts to the forefront of international academic and cultural discourse. The Afrocolor Aesthetic Rooted in African spirituality and identity, AKORE is the creator of the "Afrocolor" style—a vibrant synthesis of urban graffiti, tribal forms, and abstract expressionism. His signature portraits of African women serve as powerful totems of cultural memory and ancestral strength, bridging his Mediterranean roots in Murcia with his deep-seated spiritual affinity for the African continent. Creative Resistance and Sustainability AKORE’s practice is an act of "Creative Resistance." He is known for painting large-scale murals in public spaces in broad daylight, reclaiming the urban landscape as a site for spontaneous, pure expression. Committed to environmental ethics, he integrates recycled materials—doors, traffic signs, scrap metal—into his sculptures and canvases, transforming urban "waste" into high-value contemporary art. Institutional & Academic Recognition His work transcends the street, earning a place in the academic world: Academic Study: His artistic production is currently studied by the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at the Complutense University of Madrid. Lecturer: He has delivered guest lectures at the University of Barcelona and the Palau de la Música Catalana (UNESCO World Heritage Site), discussing the intersection of art, mental health (Bipolar Disorder), and creativity. Global Media: Featured in National Geographic, Time Out USA ("13 Best Street Artists in the World"), and the TV3/Movistar+/BBC Studios documentary series "This is Art," broadcast in 80 countries. Multidisciplinary Future Since 2025, AKORE has expanded his narrative into Immersive Video Art and Experimental Sound (collaboration with Antonio Miyagi) and documentary filmmaking (Dakar Afrocolor), solidifying his status as a versatile creator whose work explores migration, resilience, and the universal language of color.
