Evening Painting

Martin began with watercolour illustrations of interiors. In the early 1990s, he worked for a number of London designers, creating interior design presentations. He subsequently began to incorporate aspects of "the unexpected" that were hidden in some corner, book shelf, or wardrobe. The otherwise uninteresting, factual drawings gained artistic merit. Martin's particular style contains elements from several artistic styles, although Urban Realism appears to be the predominant influence on his use of colour, composition, line texture, and shape. Martin appears to capture the essence of the movement through his work by presenting harsh and barren spaces that often give a sense of despair and loneliness. These aspects, together with the use of colour, composition, line texture, and shape, provide the observer with a compelling and thought-provoking visual experience. Overall, Martin's paintings offer a fresh and emotional look at the urban landscape and the human condition inside it.
