(*In this calligraphy painting, the artist chose to written the second 日 to use a simplified mark, ’’.) Meaning: Literally translates to "Every day is a good day" or "Try to spend everyday meaningfully" This phrase is from a Zen master, Un-mon-bun-en, in ancient China. It's direct translation is ' Everyday is a wonderful day', but it has much deeper meaning. Whether it’s a rainy day or a stormy day, or it’s a difficult day or a stressful day, bad things will always happen. No matter what happens in your daily life, push through with a strong and positive heart to make the day a good day. This zen phrase is teaching us to live/make every single moment to the best. It's up to us to determine. -size- about 44" x 15 " (127cm x 38cm) -materials used- silk (Champagne color, or very light yellow gold with silk fabric shine), paper, sumi ink, seal paste, wood Created in February 2022. ---------------------- *about my Sumi painting background: I was trained Shodo (Japanese Calligraphy) since when I was 4 or 5 years old under my father who was a master Shodo painter. Shodo and Sumi-E painting is my roots, my culture, and my father's legacy. They are beautiful Japanese traditional arts and I deeply appreciate my father who taught me and my heritage. *What is "Shodo", Japanese Calligraphy Shodo is a Japanese word for Japanese Calligraphy, and it is written 書道. The first characator, 書, means “writing”, and the second character, 道, means “path” or “way of life”. The Kanji (Chinese character), 道 is often associated with many names of other Japanese cultural activities, like 華道 Japanese flower arrangment、茶道 Japanese tea ceremony、柔道 Jyu-do、空手道 Karate-do、and 剣道 Ken-do. It represents that those cultural activities and martial arts are not just learning things but they are a “way of life”. In Shodo, it is the use of sumi paint and bamboo brushes to create calligraphy. It’s history is very long, going back more than 2000 years. It was originally started in China, then came to Japan around the 6th century. It was part as part of Zen buddhism culture which developed in Japan. ----------------------- * Please understand, because of the handmade nature, the painting or scroll might have small imperfections, such as visible fibers, small wrinkles, paint splashes, or even stains. We are very careful to create our artworks with love, but there are sometimes imperfections happens. But it's normal to have sumi ink to bleed and dry brush effects to happen in any authentic Sumi artworks. It's considered and appreciated as special beauty in Sumi arts.
