Excerpt 6 Painting

The Excerpt series stems from my desire to re-use pieces of older projects in new work. Art materials are expensive, purchasing cradled panels removes the artist from a step in the creation of their work. I like to spend time with my pieces and develop a relationship with them on every level. With Excerpts I create cradled panels from previously used masonite panels, the painting on the masonite act as grounds for new pieces. I work back into the smaller slices of paintings, using paint, ink, and collage to create a new work from aggregates of earlier work. They are as much exercises in material usage as they are exercises in composition. The pieces are signed on the back in ink.
