This piece explores idea of foreign and familiar. This is a re-imagining of classical portraiture as seen from a post-colonial lens to question the nature of identity. The face is obscured, yet the eyes above the person seem too large for this face, the color of the skin varies from the background to the figure. These differences and similarities work to highlight how we determine what/who is like us and worth our sympathy. And what/who is not.
