ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Like most of us interrupted by the virus and the surrounding events -- my workflow atrophied and I found myself less inclined to get into the studio. During this time my right eye started to fail me. I went to the eye doctor and found out I had cataracts (at an early age too). My vision failed quite quickly and I took this as motivation to paint as quick as possible -- this led to a prolific period for me. I was drawn to the abstract again as I believe we are in the middle of this storm -- all emotion and no real clear picture. That is pure abstract. We are living abstractions right now. At the end of something and the beginning of another. This is about past relationships as most of my work is -- but also looking forward.

Los Angeles-based mixed media artist David "Spooky" Harris’s work is renowned for defying conventional boundaries with its captivating blend of humor, wit, and the macabre. Transitioning from a background in theatre and television, he has become a prominent figure in the dynamic art scenes of Los Angeles, New York, and Joshua Tree, where he invites audiences to embrace the unconventional and find humor in the darkness. Spooky’s distinctive black-and-white pieces, which skillfully blend pop culture with irreverence, are juxtaposed by striking large-scale ultra-bright abstract figuratives. Recently featured on the cover of South Bay Magazine, Spooky was praised for already making “an indelible mark on the canvas of contemporary art.”
