ABOUT THE ARTWORK

With a strong interest in psychology, I create multilayered and profound visual worlds. The subject of “The Mindfulness Series” is an inner reality with thoughts and emotions, with which the viewer can resonate in ever new ways. "Let yourself in on me, then I tell you something - and show you something of yourself!".

I live and work in Bensberg near Cologne, Germany. In my professional life I had worked first as a teacher of biology and sports and then for a long time in information technology and practiced art only on the side. For a good four years I have concentrated entirely on painting. My diverse works follow the tradition of abstract expressionism with a psychological orientation. ARTIST STATEMENT "My art opens inwards" (short version) With a strong interest in psychology, I create multilayered and profound visual worlds. The subject of the current “The Mindfulness Series” is an inner reality with thoughts and emotions, with which the viewer can resonate in ever new ways. "Let yourself in on me, then I tell you something - and show you something of yourself!". (long version) With a strong interest in psychology, I create multilayered and profound visual worlds. My works are therefore built up from a whole series of overlapping and often translucent layers of color and structures. In this way I achieve an in-depth complexity that resists a mundane, representational appropriation. I let myself in on a process-related abstract painting that gives space to intuition, the unconscious, the sensing and empathy. This can mean that the result in the creative process remains hidden for a long time, because new impulses can always change structure and composition. The subject of my works are mostly not models from the animate or inanimate environment, but an inner reality with thoughts and emotions, with which the viewer can resonate in ever new ways. "Let yourself in on me, then I tell you something - and show you something of yourself!". With my paintings I always want to express mental processes such as thinking, experiencing, remembering and forgetting with the feelings that accompany them and the processes of change that are triggered by them. Everything is in flux, nothing is unchangeable. I achieve this through an often very fast, gestural, the intuition following color application. The emotionally charged brushstroke, for example, can be powerful or awkward, courageous or vulnerable, brash or hesitant, carefree or doubtful, determining the structure and rhythm of the picture. The sometimes strongly reduced color palette supports the content-related statements of the painting through its emotional associations. Feeling and spirit are equally stimulated by the choice of colors and the dynamics of the composition.
