FOR EXPORT # 7 Oil Tanker Subseries of "A Dangerous Art" * "FOR EXPORT" emerged as a subserie for "A Dangerous Art", reusing what was left of large works. Seventh work in the series, completely in oil. Perhaps the excess of oil in the world, whose price became negative (!), Inspired me in this. To give you an idea, when you get a negative price, it means that you are being paid to store oil. That's right! The giant oil tankers are stopped at sea, unable to unload. It's crazy! Never before in the history of mankind has such a thing occurred. In any case, in this work I did not save oil paint. The texture created with oil is very nice. Its complete drying will still take many months, but it is already possible to transport it. I believe that all this confusion of oil - which is a commodity - served very well to compose another work in the series, considering that FOR EXPORT is based on the question of Brazil as a commodity exporter. Of course, the banana's symbolism expands. It is worth remembering that this series came from "A Dangerous Art". FOR EXPORT was a way I found to use the vibrant colors and the symbolism of the banana (something I talk about in other works in the series; see previous posts) to make a work with a lot of life and energy. Through these works, I sought the best union between something apparently abstract and my vision of Brazil as a country, hence the name "FOR EXPORT". It is also common to see products with the writing "Export Type", signaling that they would be "better" (premium) than "normal". Despite not being the world's largest exporter of bananas (it is India), Brazil is considered the "breadbasket of the world" when it comes to food exports. There is also the issue, much criticized internally, that we export our best products and leave what is left for internal consumption. With the dollar as it is, I doubt that many would not do the same. The back of the work is also worked, like the stamps and seals on the boxes of products that are exported. In this way, I wanted to show through colors all the diversity of products (and culture, art, etc.) that I imagine to be the showcase of my country. I believe that we are still seen as a happy country, despite all our difficulties as a nation. We export our best and, despite all the difficulties that we impose ourselves, we want to be better. Hope is the last to die, as we say here. And in this moment when the world is going through so many difficulties, I hope that the series "FOR EXPORT" will be a reference of joy in any place. Directly from Brazil, directly from my studio. To the world.
