About The Artwork

Family by Choice - Sulphur-crested Cockatoo 75 x 75 x 2.5 cm 20/09/2022 By HSIN LIN Artist Acrylic on triple primed gesso Acid free canvas. Sealed with clear spray varnish. Signed at front, sides painted and ready to hang. Comes with certificate of authenticity. Painted with palette knife and brushes. Affirmation: Friend is family by choice. Partner is family by choice. And you my dear, you are my family by choice. -We are all different, but we make each other better. - Cockatoos symbolize change and to embrace self-love. They also represent a sense of community and the importance of communication As many of you may know I don’t paint birds often, but when I do it’s normally a self-projection. This artwork was inspired by my visit to the Ballarat Bird World. I spent quite some time observing this playful little friend – White Cockatoo, one of my favourite Australian Native Birds. Which also inspired me to paint this artwork as an extension of my previous series. Like a year book, featuring all our friends, carrying all kinds of memories. Each bird has different appearance, different personality, and each one of them might remind you of that specific, special friend of yours. That person might be bubbly, fun or even weird in an amazing way, and you love them no matter what. That’s why I name this series – Family by Choice. Hope you enjoy this original series of mine. A latest piece from my animal series -THE VOICE OF NATURE -. Artwork inspired by nature in Ballarat Bird World, Victoria, Spring 2022 By HSIN LIN. Solo Exhibition : 11 - 22 Jan 2024 - HSIN LIN Solo Exhibition- Blossoms of Life at VAS McCubbin Gallery. Invited by The Victorian Artists Society.

HSIN LIN, Award-winning Artist based in Melbourne, Australia. In Hsin Lin’s ongoing, signature contemporary floral series that feature native and common flowers we know, flowers represent life and each different type of flower has a unique symbolic meaning. Lin is inspired by her close observation of the natural world. Through a process of careful looking Lin is able to capture an incredible amount of intricate detail. To create the larger-scale work, Lin normally spends 6-12 months developing the intricate composition. The fine details such as the tiny petals have been developed through ten or more layers of paint. Lin describes that ‘although still-life is considered a traditional genre, each object in the paintings stands for a different meaning and has its own story. Flowers represent us as humans, vases represent the body carrying our soul, protecting us like a shield. The weaving basket stands for connections—the bonds between families, friends and all the people around us. Even if you are apart, everyone is still being linked together as a whole and we are stronger together.’ Lin’s paintings, a series of flowers in full bloom, remind us that we are alive and that life is vibrant, blossoming and full of potential. [BIOGRAPHY] Hsin Lin is a Melbourne-based award-winning artist who specializes in contemporary floral paintings.
