Vita Fomenko is a Ukrainian-born visual and media artist based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Trained in academic painting and monumental art at the National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture in Kyiv, her practice has evolved from traditional studio work into contemporary, mobile-based digital interventions. Working at the intersection of photography, drawing, and digital layering, Fomenko creates minimal, atmospheric compositions where small symbolic elements emerge within open space. Her works explore themes of fragility, displacement, and memory, often reflecting on personal and collective experiences shaped by cultural rupture. Many of her recent pieces are developed using a mobile phone as a primary tool—transforming everyday moments into quiet visual narratives. These works exist between stillness and movement, often conceived as sequences, prints, or screen-based installations. Fomenko’s practice balances classical training with contemporary media, creating a language that is both intimate and spatial—where images are not fixed, but carried.
