Favela Painting

Favela is an unveiling, each texture giving way to the next as the materials blend and clash against each other in form and gesture. Inspired by the thick layers of paint and wheatpaste and more paint and graffiti in the urban environment, Favela revels in the grotesque brutality of the tangible environment while elevating the viscera in celebration. The current human state is one of absent consciousness and a slide away from tactile concrete reality. This work calls attention to vapidity of the contemporary digital age in its insistence upon the manifest.
