About The Artwork

“Fields of Gold” #10 This is a bold and dramatic painting, in vibrant, rich, deep colours, dramatically textured, and possessing wonderful movement. This painting is a completely original work of art, painted on canvas, and is framed in a contemporary, solid wood white frame, that perfectly compliments the artwork. In the creation of this painting I used a variety of materials, from acrylics and iridescent pigments, to opulent gold metallic paints. The dramatic textures in this artwork were achieved through the use of an unusual combination of materials, as well as unique painting techniques that I have been perfecting over a lifetime. This painting is part of a series entitled “Fields of Gold”. The inspiration behind it is my desire to depict and communicate the beauty of grass landscapes in various places around the world, where I have lived or visited: such as, the bamboo forests of Japan, the prairie grasslands in Saskatchewan, and the wheat fields in the Alentejo region of Portugal and the hills of Tuscany. I travel extensively and I’m very inspired by these grass landscapes. The undulating movement of these beautiful plants as they sway in the breeze, and their shimmering colours as they catch the light, or are backlit by a sunset, imbue them with a beauty that to me is unparalleled. Sometimes I simply sit and observe them for a long time, the images absorbed and stored in my mind for future inspiration. But often I paint miniature paintings “en pleine air” which I bring back to the studio as a reference for the full size artworks. Although this series references natural landscapes, the paintings are interpretive and abstracted, and never depict any specific place. What interests me as an artist is to depict not what I see, but what I feel, and what I hope others will feel when they view my work. I’m interested in the intangible qualities of these landscapes and I believe these paintings capture their “essence” from the majesty of vast bamboo forests to the simple beauty of humble prairie grasses. Note: This painting is signed in the back. It can be sold without a frame, at the preference of the collector, and the price of the painting and shipping costs adjusted accordingly.
