ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Firelight is a response to the Australian bushfires of 2019/20. Like many people in Australia, I was evacuated from my studio in Peregian Beach and felt first hand the power and destruction that the fires had unleashed. Bushfires have always been a part of the Australian landscape, but this season showed us that the threat is exponentially rising and we cannot escape the consequences of climate change. Firelight was not painted as a grim reminder, but more a celebration of the awesome power of nature and a call for all of us to show respect and empathy to the environment around us. Dinah’s paintings are enjoyed all over the world, including collections in New York, London, Toronto, Paris, Hong Kong and throughout Australia. She is known for the tremendous sense of movement and energy that she captures in her paintings and the beautiful ambience her work creates.

Born in Shrewsbury, UK, Dinah Wakefield is the daughter of the British artist, Larry Wakefield. Dinah has had a lifelong passion for art and design, beginning her career as a textile designer and stylist, before establishing herself as an abstract artist. Dinah lived and worked as an artist in Sydney for over 20 years, developing a reputation for her dramatic abstract landscapes. She has many exhibitions, commissions and corporate representations in her CV. In 2016 she moved to Noosa establishing her studio in the garden of her new home in Peregian Beach. Dinah draws inspiration from the landscape around her, focusing on an abstract expression of colour and form. Her latest works continue the theme of abstract landscapes. They are inspired by the natural beauty of the area and are fluid and organic creating a sense of peace, tranquility and space.
