About The Artwork

Fleur de lis Flowers have always given their beauty to people and inspired them. Each country has its own special flower, which is often a state symbol. So, in France it is a sophisticated and romantic lily with snow-white waxy petals. In total, there are more than 2,000 species of lilies on Earth of various colors, also differing in petal shape and size. But it was the white lily that was appointed as the symbol of France, and not only for its beauty. According to legend, the blossoming white lily became a guiding star for the French army escaping from encirclement. A magical flower bloomed right at the ford and showed the way to salvation and victory. According to legend, after this the Frankish king Clovis I not only won the battle, but also became a Christian. Fleur de lys - the fleur-de-lis - was depicted on the coat of arms of France, symbolizing the three virtues - mercy, justice and compassion, as well as the main sacrament of Christianity - the trinity of God. Lily has always been revered by Christians and was considered as a divine flower. According to legend, the Archangel Gabriel came to the Blessed Virgin with a lily in his hand and told her the good news about the imminent birth of Christ. In the Old Testament, lilies are called the tears of Eve, expelled from Paradise. And scientists came to the conclusion that the lily was indeed the first flower to appear on Earth…
