Flight of Fancy – a soaring of imagination. We are surrounded by beauty, we sometimes fail to see. For some, seagulls are a nuisance, I think they are a beautiful part of our natural world and with this painting I am celebrating them. It is beautiful to watch them hover and dance in the wind, in rolls and dives. Without knowing it, seagulls perform aerobatics to entertain people watching from below. The concept of ‘negative space’ also plays into this painting. The idea that absence can be as eloquent as presence. [Nat Geo] When you first look at the painting, what do you see? The large planes of aquamarine? Or the birds, or the graffiti like background? And, do the birds move in and out of the painting? What do you see when you are up close? What do you see when you stand further back? So many questions. So much detail. Get lost in this painting. Flights of Fancy – is finished in a semi gloss patina. The finish is naturally organic and not machine looking, as if the gulls brushed water on with its wings. Edge painted, wired and ready to hang. Cradled wood panel.
