ABOUT THE ARTWORK
"Float" is part of a miniature landscape series I'm currently exploring. This work combines elements of nature and imagination with a soft, organic approach. Clusters of abstracted plant life and spring flowers float along the surface of the canvas. A light grey and off white background give host to the airy nature of this work. This piece is acrylic on canvas, 12" x 12". The work is not framed but does have hanging wire on the back.

In my current body of work, I use flora and fauna as my base or jumping off point then immerse myself in the development of the painting as it unravels, responding to every mark with a keenly developed improvisational style. Objects are analyzed, broken up and reassembled in a gestural abstract form. I relish in pure colour and the lyrical movement of paint on the surface. Like a tangle of vines, my paintings invite you to travel through them and explore the sensations that arise from the colours and forms. Lalonde is an emerging artist and a recent graduate of the Drawing and Painting program at OCAD University. She is represented by Muse Gallery in Toronto and is currently living and working in Guelph ON.
