ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Taro was watching TV and saw a short feature on floppy disks. It was about how floppy disks, which are thought to have outlived their usefulness in today's society, are still a very important item in certain industries.
It is said that embroidery machines and Boeing 747 jumbo jets still cannot function without floppy disks.
And that the floppy disk is the icon used for the image of "preservation" in the symbolic society of the social networking age.
It was very interesting that the preservation icon that we take as an image without thinking and linked to an image in our brain can be recognized even by the generation that does not know the floppy disk, as if the floppy disk continues to live on like a ghost.
Because the floppy disk represents the advancement of computer technology in a historical sense, the work has historical value and is an item that is still remembered by many people today, as well as its cultural value.
By expressing classic values based on technology and the human sensibilities placed on those technologies, they create a special culture that expresses new values. Furthermore, by combining the medium of floppy disks with the unique bug screen of the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System), the artist mixes typical Japanese subcultures and uses retro items that evoke nostalgic memories for many people as a motif, which is one of its strengths. It represents the computer and popular culture of the 80s and 90s, and can be said to represent the diverse influences of technology on people's lives. It signifies that people are changing the way they live with the advancement of technology.
By combining the medium of floppy disks with the unique bug screen of the NES, the work expresses a mix of typical Japanese subcultures and captures the ephemeral nature of modern society and the present that is being lost by using retro items that evoke fond memories for many people.

ArtFacts Instagaram Taro Yakumo grew up in an environment where both parents were working in art-related fields, and began painting in oil and other media at an art class at an early age. He did not pursue art school, but instead turned his attention to music. Although he had nothing to do with art for a while, he has experienced the changing art scene in Japan and abroad by visiting art fairs in various countries, studying abroad in Korea, and staying in the U.S. to produce artworks. He expresses himself with a new concept by incorporating motifs of things that symbolize the contemporary society we are living in right now into his works.
