Christian Göbel (*1975) lives and works as a full-time artist in Trier, Germany. Originally a business economist, he transitioned from a career as an entrepreneur and manager to the art world in his mid-40s. His art symbolizes breaking free from familiar patterns and bravely exploring new paths. Göbel's professional background was marked by planning and structure, but his artistic approach largely relies on chance. He focuses on highly diluted acrylics, ink, and paint, applying them directly onto untreated canvases without a brush or any other tools. The paint flows in various directions, allowing the artwork to develop independently and maintain its uniqueness. Göbel sometimes lets the paint dry, or he may paint over it while still wet, creating layers with holes, gaps, cracks, or spots, contributing to the multifaceted nature of his works. Göbel doesn't view his art as a depiction of reality or something concrete. He doesn't paint anything specific but creates canvases that serve as projection screens for each viewer's thoughts and desires. He believes that the significance of art lies not in what is depicted but in the interaction it provokes with the observer. Consequently, Göbel doesn't title his artworks but merely numbers them, emphasizing the viewer's role as part of the creative process and the artwork itself.

In my mid-40s, I quit my job in the financial industry and reinvented myself. From a gray businessman to a colorful artist. I didn't plan it. But there was a desire for intensity and the longing for a creative life. And I just allowed it to happen. That takes courage and confidence. So that's what my art is all about. To have the courage to shape your life with self-confidence. Not thinking to much about the consequences and obstacles. With my work, I want to encourage people to free themselves from well-known patterns and to boldly design their lifes. My paintings help the viewer to forget their doubts and to concentrate on what is possible. HOW I PAINT I move between abstraction, minimalism and color fields - physical an digital. When I start a painting, I try to free myself from everything. No intention, no sketches, no rules. I just focus on color and its effect. I pour and spray acrylic colors on a wet canvas. The color finds its way into the picture. Sometimes wild, sometimes gentle, but always unexpected, it flows across the screen. Layer by layer an unexpected space of possibilities emerges. I always work in multiple layers. Sometimes I give the paint time to dry, sometimes I paint wet on wet. This creates structures with holes, cracks or stains in the different layers of paint. With each layer the picture gets more and more character. As with every human being, their character becomes more interesting and unique with every facet. Let things take their course. Having the courage to look beyond the familiar and not beeing afraid to create new realities. This applies to my art as well as to my way of life.
